Since the 1920’s women have navigated their way through the male-dominated sport of surfing while cultivating their skill, technique, style, and grace. Now, 100 years later, the World Surfing League (WSL) has declared that women and men will be paid equally for professional surfing. This ruling was monumental for beginning to have equality in the sport. During this time of transition to equality, it is vital that women maintain their unique style.
As for me, I strive to represent women of surfing in an empowering and positive way. This year, I was nominated President of the Surf Team at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Until now, this coveted position was consistently held by a male, as the surf team members are mostly male themselves. Being the first female president of the surf team at Cal Poly, I am privileged to be trusted to lead this predominantly male team. This year, our team is entering the NSSA State Championships with the best chance of winning in our history and I am honored to lead the way!
Just Bones BoardwearTM has supported me with my vision of women leading the way in surfing. Their bikinis maintain the functionality required to surf at an elite level without sacrificing the style and femininity that allows me to feel my best. Rather than fight to be similar to the boys, the suits allow women like me to stand out and take pride in being a surfer girl! With the encouragement of companies like Just Bones BoardwearTM, I am empowered to continue advocating for advancements in female surfing and contribute to the world of elite female surfing for the next century, all while looking radiant!
